There’s a lot moving across the card table today. Riftbound has two competitive bans arriving this week, Magic’s Reality Fracture preview season is almost at the finish line, and Pokémon TCG Live has officially kicked off its 30th Celebration.
Here’s what’s worth catching up on.
Riftbound bans Ekko, Recurrent and Stacked Deck
Effective September 18, 2026
Riot is adding Ekko, Recurrent and Stacked Deck to the Standard and Constructed 2v2 banned lists this Friday, just ahead of the Los Angeles Regional Qualifier and the upcoming Regional Championships.
Ekko is the cleaner of the two calls. Riot has been watching the infinite play pattern that developed around the Lux combo deck since Unleashed. The deck itself hasn’t taken over tournament play, but Riot says the combo creates too few opportunities for the other player to interact and can turn matches into long, solitaire-like sequences. Removing Ekko breaks that loop without broadly knocking down other Mind strategies.
Stacked Deck is more about consistency. It has become an easy inclusion in Chaos lists, and Riot specifically called out how efficiently it works with Kennen and Lightning Rush: the deck gets to dig for key pieces while also loading the trash for cards such as Rhasa the Sunderer and Last Rites.
Riot’s stated goal is not to erase Kennen. It expects the deck to remain playable, just less efficient at finding exactly what it needs. If either card is sleeved up in your competitive list, the deadline is simple: the bans take effect September 18.

Reality Fracture reaches the last stretch of preview season
Commander reveal: September 16 · Full gallery: September 18 · Prerelease: September 25 · Tabletop release: October 2
Reality Fracture is almost fully on the table. Wizards’ official preview schedule runs through September 17, with the complete card image gallery due on September 18.
September 16 is also the scheduled reveal day for Multiverse Reforged, the set’s four-color Commander deck. Wizards has described the deck as a Polymorph-themed build tied directly to Jace’s attempt to reshape reality, which makes it one of the more unusual Commander products attached to a Standard set this year.
The timing is useful for Commander players who have been holding off on evaluating the set. We’re now close enough to the full gallery that individual previews can finally be viewed as pieces of a complete environment rather than isolated cards.
After Friday’s gallery reveal, the calendar moves quickly: Prerelease begins September 25, the set arrives on MTG Arena September 29, and the worldwide tabletop release follows on October 2.

Pokémon TCG Live starts the 30th Celebration

Pokémon’s 30th anniversary has reached TCG Live. The Pokémon TCG: 30th Celebration expansion became available digitally on September 15, bringing its booster packs and bundles to the in-game Shop and making code cards from physical 30th Celebration products redeemable.
The celebration is doing more than adding another set to the client. Pokémon also launched a new Battle Pass and September Ranked Ladder, introduced collection-based Missions, and rolled out an updated Battle Board designed to make cards easier to read in landscape play.
For collectors, the headline is still the set itself. Pokémon says every booster contains a Pikachu rare, with 30 different Pikachu illustrations across the expansion—one for each year of the TCG. The set also brings back notable cards through its Classic Collection subset.
The new Battle Pass runs through November 5, so there’s a fairly generous window to work through the anniversary content.

Around the Hearth
September 18 is the next date circled on our calendar. Riftbound’s bans become active that day, and Magic publishes the complete Reality Fracture gallery at the same time.
We checked the Hearth & Hoard catalog before putting today’s Journal together. There isn’t an in-stock product directly tied closely enough to these stories to force a shop recommendation, so we’re leaving the shelf pick out today rather than wedging in something unrelated.
