Riftbound: Radiance booster display and booster pack, official Riot Games imagery

Riftbound has finally shown us the card sitting at the top of Radiance’s collector ladder, and the number attached to it is probably more important than the name. Packed Amphitheater is the set’s Ultimate Rare, appearing in roughly 0.025% of booster packs across the print run.

Elsewhere, one of tabletop RPG history’s more ambitious reference projects reaches public release today, while anyone still considering MagicCon Detroit has only hours left in the convention’s early-bird badge window.

Radiance’s Ultimate Rare is a one-in-thousands kind of pull

Riot’s second Riftbound Ultimate Rare is Packed Amphitheater, a Battlefield from Radiance. The reveal surfaced during the Radiance Creator Summit ahead of the date Riot had originally marked for the set’s next official update.

The important part is the rarity. Riot says an Ultimate Rare appears in approximately 0.025% of Radiance booster packs across the entire print run, with no guaranteed copy in a pack, box, or case. That works out to roughly one appearance per 4,000 packs on average. The previous Ultimate Rare, Baron Nashor from Unleashed, appeared at about 0.1%, so Riot has made the top chase substantially harder to find this time.

Packed Amphitheater itself is a Battlefield that gives Champion units there +1 Might. The ordinary card was already part of the preview pool; the Ultimate treatment is the collector piece. That distinction matters for players because nobody needs the ultra-rare version to access the game effect, while collectors now have a very clear ceiling card for the set.

There is still more Radiance to see. Riot’s official overview is scheduled for another update today at 10 a.m. PT, preview season continues through October 9, and Pre-Rift events begin October 16 before the set releases October 23.

On the calendar: Radiance overview update: October 5 at 10 a.m. PT. Preview season ends October 9. Pre-Rifts: October 16–22. Release: October 23.

Designers & Dragons: Origins reaches the shelf today

Evil Hat’s Designers & Dragons: Origins gets its public release today after crowdfunding, printing, and backer fulfillment. Shannon Appelcline’s project is a four-volume history of TSR-era Dungeons & Dragons, covering Original D&D, AD&D 1e, Holmes Basic, B/X, BECMI, the Black Box era, and Mystara.

This is less a new rules release than a piece of hobby archaeology. Each volume runs more than 350 pages, and the set works product by product through TSR’s output rather than giving D&D history the usual handful of broad chapters. That means famous books sit alongside oddities and obscurities that usually get a sentence, if they get mentioned at all.

For longtime players, collectors, and anyone interested in how tabletop RPG publishing actually evolved, that granularity is the point. The four-volume slipcase is the big version, but Evil Hat also offers individual volumes, which makes the project considerably easier to approach if only one era of early D&D is your particular rabbit hole.

MagicCon Detroit’s first badge discount ends today

MagicCon Detroit is still months away, but the first buying decision lands today. Early-bird badge pricing ends October 5 at 10 a.m. PT, or sooner if a badge type sells out.

The convention runs February 26–28, 2027 at Huntington Place. The competitive centerpiece is Pro Tour Nauctis, with Nauctis: The Sunken Realm Draft and Modern Constructed, while the broader play schedule and guest list are still being filled in.

We have mentioned Detroit as badge sales opened, so this is the useful follow-up rather than another convention preview: if the trip is already on your 2027 calendar, today is the actual early-bird cutoff. After 10 a.m. PT, the standard pricing window takes over.

Today’s deadline: MagicCon Detroit early-bird pricing ends October 5 at 10 a.m. PT.
