Wizards has removed one product from November’s Magic: The Gathering | Star Trek launch entirely: the Beginner Box is canceled worldwide after production, logistics, and shipping delays. The rest of the Star Trek product line remains unaffected.
On MTG Arena, today is also the day more than 200 rebalanced tabletop cards return to their printed versions, bringing new Historic and Brawl bans with them. Meanwhile, Reality Fracture picked up its formal rules-and-Oracle update as Prerelease week begins.
Star Trek’s Beginner Box Has Been Canceled Worldwide

Wizards of the Coast says it will no longer produce the Magic: The Gathering | Star Trek Beginner Box. The company cited delays across production, logistics, and shipping, and confirmed that the cancellation applies in every region.
If you already placed a preorder, Wizards is directing customers back to the local game store or retailer that took the order. Events that expected to use the Beginner Box, including MagicCon: Atlanta, are also being reworked, with updated plans still to come.
The important distinction for players and collectors is that this is a single-product cancellation, not a delay to the set as a whole. Wizards says no other Star Trek Magic products are affected. The set’s broader calendar still points to Prerelease events November 6–12 and a global tabletop release on November 13.
The Beginner Box was meant to be the most guided learn-to-play entry point in the line, so its removal narrows the onboarding options for new players. It does not change the main set, Commander decks, boosters, bundles, or the rest of the announced product lineup.

MTG Arena Reverts More Than 200 Rebalanced Cards Today
Effective September 22, 2026
More than 200 MTG Arena versions of tabletop cards revert to their original printed versions today. From here forward, those cards match their tabletop text in every Arena format where they are legal.
That power shift comes with immediate banned-list changes. Historic now bans Galvanic Discharge, Guide of Souls, Nadu, Winged Wisdom, Sorin, Imperious Bloodlord, and The One Ring. Brawl bans Nadu, Winged Wisdom. Timeless and Competitive Brawl receive no changes.
For anyone with Historic or Brawl decks built around previously rebalanced cards, today is worth treating like a format maintenance day: check the exact text on returning cards and verify that a deck did not pick up a newly banned piece before queuing.
This is part of Arena’s longer move away from Alchemy as a standalone format. Alchemy: Reality Fracture is still planned for October 13, while the Alchemy format itself is scheduled to leave Arena with the February 2, 2027 rotation.

Reality Fracture Gets Its Formal Rules Update

Wizards published the Reality Fracture Update Bulletin on September 21, moving several mechanics and wording questions from preview-season explanation into the formal rules-and-Oracle layer.
Rule 701.71 now defines what it means to empower Jace, a new combat rule defines when a creature attacks a player alone, and a subrule in 111.10 formally defines a Heartwood token. Those are the kinds of details that matter most once cards move from preview images to actual tournament tables.
The bulletin also updates older cards. Dragon Engine and Traxos, Scourge of Kroog gain the Dragon creature type; Sylvan Primordial’s wording is clarified so its Forests enter together; and Generator Servant and Arena of Glory are clarified so spending any of the mana they create is enough to grant the relevant creature spell haste.
Wizards also launched the Magic Rules Blog alongside the bulletin, giving the rules team a new official place to explain future Oracle, templating, and rules-management decisions beyond the usual release-note cycle.

Around the Hearth
The next checkpoint is tomorrow, September 23, when Wizards hosts the Reality Fracture Early-Access event on YouTube and Twitch. The set then reaches tabletop Prerelease on Friday, September 25, before arriving on MTG Arena September 29 and in tabletop stores October 2.
Friday is also the next date already circled on the Riftbound side of the calendar, with Radiance preview season opening in Los Angeles. After a relatively quiet weekend, the end of this week should bring much more actual card-level news to work with.
