With the full Reality Fracture gallery now on the table, Wizards has shifted from preview season into actual event preparation. The new Prerelease guide and release notes give players the details that matter before sealed decks start getting built next Friday.
Today’s Journal is deliberately tighter than yesterday’s: there are two useful new Magic resources worth reading, and no reason to pad the page with recycled Riftbound or Pokémon headlines.
Reality Fracture Gets Its Prerelease Playbook

Wizards published its Reality Fracture Prerelease guide on September 18, laying out exactly what players will open and how next week’s events work. Each Prerelease Pack contains six Play Boosters, a traditional foil promo, a deck box, and a Spindown die; players build a 40-card Sealed deck with those contents plus any number of basic lands.
The guide is more useful now than another preview roundup because the full set is available to study. Players can move from asking what cards exist to looking at removal, fixing, combat tricks, archetype overlap, and which build-arounds are realistic with a six-pack pool.
There is also a notable change for Two-Headed Giant Prerelease events. Starting with Reality Fracture, each two-player team receives one Prerelease Pack plus two additional Play Boosters for deck construction. Wizards says the change is intended to make team Sealed construction closer to the one-on-one experience and more accessible.
Prerelease begins Friday, September 25, so this weekend is the first clean window to study the complete environment before cards are actually opened across the table.

The Release Notes Put the New Mechanics Under a Microscope

Wizards also published the official Reality Fracture release notes, which means players now have the rules reference for the set’s new mechanics and its stranger card interactions rather than having to infer them from preview text.
Empower Jace creates a blue Jace planeswalker token with zero loyalty if you do not already control one, then adds the stated number of loyalty counters. If you already control a Jace planeswalker token, you have to use an existing token rather than creating another one. The mechanic also specifically cares about Jace tokens; it does not simply add counters to any nontoken Jace planeswalker.
The notes also spell out how prepare works. A prepared creature creates a copy of its prepare spell in exile, and its controller may cast that copy while the creature remains prepared. A creature cannot become prepared more than once at the same time, and becoming unprepared makes the associated exiled spell copy cease to exist.
Those details are exactly the kind that matter during Prerelease, where unfamiliar mechanics and unusual board states are most likely to generate table questions. Reading the release notes before September 25 is less glamorous than browsing the mythics, but it is probably the more useful preparation.

Around the Hearth
The next major checkpoint is September 25, when Reality Fracture Prerelease begins. Riot’s Radiance Merch Store drawing also opens that day, so next Friday has become a busy date for both Magic and Riftbound players.
