New D&D is on the shelf today, and Magic's next set is starting to come into focus. Arcana Unleashed and Deadfall both release September 15, while Reality Fracture preview season delivered another round of cards and a detailed look at how its echoed pairs were built.
Elsewhere, Wizards has put a date on Alchemy's retirement, Arena Direct is offering physical Aetherdrift boxes, and Garphill has unveiled a hefty new fantasy strategy game for 2027.
D&D's Arcana Unleashed arrives — with a level 11–20 adventure beside it
Arcana Unleashed releases today, September 15, as a broad expansion for both players and Dungeon Masters. The book leans hard into high-magic campaigns: eight subclasses, ten backgrounds, more than twenty feats, thirty-three new or revised spells, nine arcane factions, new Bastion options, dozens of magic items, and a fresh bestiary.
What makes this release more interesting than a simple character-options book is how much of it is aimed at the campaign around the characters. The factions have leaders, rivalries, renown rewards, and facilities of their own, giving DMs ready-made institutions to drop into a setting instead of another stack of disconnected player choices.
The companion release, Arcana Unleashed: Deadfall, goes in the opposite direction: it is a full adventure for levels 11–20 set in Thay. The party is thrown against Szass Tam and a threat large enough to justify characters who are already well beyond the usual low-level adventuring circuit. Wizards says the book includes more than twenty maps, a Thay gazetteer, six high-CR creatures, fourteen magic items, and a stat block for Szass Tam himself.
That level range is the real draw. Official campaigns that carry a group deep into tier-three and tier-four play are still much less common than adventures that begin at level 1, so Deadfall gives long-running tables somewhere substantial to go when the characters are already powerful.
On the calendar: Arcana Unleashed and Deadfall are available beginning September 15, 2026.

Alchemy has an end date — and Arena changes begin next week
Wizards has now put a firm date on a change that will affect a large corner of MTG Arena: Alchemy retires on February 2, 2027, alongside the next Standard rotation. Before it goes, Alchemy: Reality Fracture will arrive October 13 as the format's final dedicated release.
Players are not losing the digital-only cards they already own. Wizards says those cards will remain usable where legal in Historic, Timeless, Brawl, and Competitive Brawl. The bigger immediate change lands much sooner: on September 22, more than 200 tabletop cards that had received Alchemy-style rebalances will return to their printed versions across Arena.
That same update brings a new Historic ban list. Galvanic Discharge, Guide of Souls, Nadu, Winged Wisdom, Sorin, Imperious Bloodlord, and The One Ring are all leaving Historic; Nadu is also being banned in Brawl. If you have a deck built around the rebalanced versions of cards, next Tuesday is worth checking before you queue up.
Dates to know: September 22 for the reversion and bans; October 13 for the final Alchemy release; February 2, 2027 for Alchemy's retirement.

Reality Fracture's September 15 previews fill in the Echoverse

Reality Fracture preview season is still moving quickly. Wizards published a new set-design feature today that revealed Yoshimaru, Beloved Companion and Yoshimaru, Scrappy Stray as an echoed pair — two versions of the same character built to tell opposite stories while filling different jobs in Limited.
The design article also gives drafters a better picture of the set underneath the splashy previews. Wizards says the uncommon sheet is unusually legend-heavy, with fewer commons and more uncommons than a typical set, and confirms that the ten color pairs were deliberately built around overlapping themes so cards can move between archetypes instead of locking you into a lane immediately.
Today's wider spoiler round adds new rares alongside a large group of lower-rarity cards, which is where the Limited environment starts becoming easier to read. Entrust the Spark is among the new rares showing up in today's preview trackers, while the commons and uncommons are beginning to show how the Echoverse actually plays rather than just what its headline cards look like.
On the calendar: Reality Fracture Prerelease runs September 25–October 1, the set reaches MTG Arena on September 29, and tabletop release follows on October 2.

Arena Direct turns Aetherdrift wins into physical booster boxes

Arena Direct is back today with Best-of-One Aetherdrift Sealed. Entry is 6,000 gems, and the top end of the prize structure crosses over from digital rewards into actual tabletop product.
Six wins earns one physical Aetherdrift Play Booster box; seven wins earns two, while supplies last. That makes the event a peculiar but compelling bridge between Arena Limited and sealed collecting: the run happens online, but the prize can arrive at your door.
Wizards' detailed schedule says entry opens September 15 at 8 a.m. Pacific, signups close September 21 at 8 a.m. Pacific, and the event itself ends three hours later at 11 a.m. Pacific unless the participation cap is reached first.

Garphill reveals Paladins of Highcrown

Away from cards and character sheets, Garphill Games announced Paladins of Highcrown, a new fantasy strategy game from Shem Phillips and S J Macdonald with art by Andrew Bosley. Garphill calls it the largest box game the company has made so far, with design roots that reach back to Paladins of the West Kingdom.
It is designed for one to four players, with a listed playtime of 100–200 minutes. Across five rounds, players defend Highcrown and its World Tree, improve attributes, supply battlefields, recruit Paladins, tame beasts, and build influence among the people of the realm.
There is no retail date yet. The next milestone is a planned Kickstarter in early 2027. For the heavier-board-game crowd around the Hearth, that one is worth keeping on the watchlist.
